Pride and Prejudice RPG [28 Oct 2006|05:40pm]

Hey folks! I know that this community is pretty dead, but I just thought that you might want to know about a P&P that has started up. It looks really accurate to the book and it should be loads of fun, if you want to play at being Regency!

Currently taken characters are Georgiana (me), Caroline, Mary and Kitty. Go HERE to get further information about signing up. We really need characters so it would be great to have you on board. :)

Hello! I've been a huge fan of Jane Austen since I first read Pride and Prejudice when I was 10. I've lost count of how many times I've read it. That and Persuasion are particular faves of mine - and they help alleviate the winter doldrums for me! I'm also a fan of the BBC movie.

Anyway, here are my answers to the quiz... some of the questions were tough!

Hi, all. I am new to this community but certainly not new to Jane Austen or Pride and Prejudice. I've been a huge fan for quite some time but just recently joined livejournal. I'm excited to discuss Pride and Prejudice with other fans!

Let's hope my knowledge of P&P pulled through on this quiz:

Hello,

I have one question regarding Jane Austen's novels and movies based on them.

Was it allowed for noble men and women to kiss before marriage in those times?

I don't remember it from books I read. In Mansfield Park and Emma they kissed, but in P&P and Sense and Sensibility they haven't..

Hello. my name is Jo. I became interested in PP around 7 years ago. I started by watching the BBC version, then read the book. I thank Bridget Jones for introducing me to Darcy.  I had to find out more!

I remember my mom watching this movie when I was younger. In 10th grade, we were allowed to pick any classic we wanted, so I picked "Pride and Prejudice". I remember I read the whole book so quickly and couldn't wait to rent the movie. I fell in love with the movie and have remained so ever since. Jennifer Ehle and Colin Firth are the one and only Elizabeth and Darcy.

He is a gentleman, I am a gentleman's daughter. So far we are equal.Collapse )

__recapitulate_ is a new community I'm starting to host the recaps I've written of various movies. The first recap of Pride and Prejudice (1995 mini-series) is up! Go read it!

Quotage: "Bingley and Jane dance. Bingley smiles at Darcy, standing on the sidelines. Darcy smiles indulgently back and rolls his eyes. Well, I say he smiles back, but you must understand that Colin Firth, as Darcy, never actually moves any facial muscles. It’s as if Colin Firth was like, “Hmm, I wonder if I can go the entire mini-series without ever changing my facial expression. At all.” For some reason, though, every emotion clearly shows through. It’s very strange. He has the most expressive unexpressive face I’ve ever seen."

...We have not met since we were all dancing together on the 26th N ovember... [26 Nov 2005|11:19pm]

Today is Pride and Prejudice Day. It is the 26th November and on this day many years ago Mr. Fitzwilliam Darcy first asked Miss Elizabeth Bennet to dance even though he "disliked the amusement in general". Ahhh... *goes into fantasy of dancing with tall, dark, handsome men who only dance with me reluctantly because they're desperately in love with me...* *slaps self*

One of the few dates Jane Austen ever mentions, the 26th November certainly needs some celebration.

In honour of the day, you get:

1 x book, DVD (BBC version of course), making of book, soundtrack
1 x tour of Derbyshire
1 x country dancing lessons
An hour's worth of witty banter with your Mr. Darcy/Elizabeth Bennet of choice
My sincere wishes for your health and happiness
And in honour of the latest "adaptation" of the book (if it can be called that): 1 x room full of sexy, Greek nudes. :P

May all your Mr. Darcys be wearing wet shirts and may your Miss Bennets possess the very finest eyes. May your life be filled with love, trust, witty banter, snarky retorts, compatibility and intelligence. I sure hope mine is. :)

Spread the word of today. Spread the love! :D

I was reading the Winter Preview in Entertainment Weekly tonight and they had a lil side ditty on Miss Austen's great contribution to the screen with P & P, and the ones they listed, respectively:

1940--Pride and Prejudice with Greer Garson and Laurence Olivier, which got mixed reviews, if I remember correctly, something about costumes being wrong period

1995--The one we all LOVE with Jennifer Ehle and Colin Firth, BBC, which transported us and the cast of EW into utter rapture!

2005--The shiny, new one with Keira Knightley (heretofore unknown to me but for the small role in Star Wars Episode II) which they also loved but felt strayed a little from the formula, and had not quite the sizzling chemistry of its immediate predecessor (pond scene...*faints*)

...

Now, I ask you, dear readers, have you seen the latest installment? My husband just mentioned it to me, and asked me if I would like to see it, and really, am not quite sure. That is why I would like to know what you all think of it. Does it make you want to fan yourself effusively and reach for your hanky or is it merely pallitable?
